Guv Rajkhowa should resign on moral ground, says Taloh
Staff Reporter
ITANAGAR, Jul 19: Even as the Supreme Court (SC) judgment came to the rescue and Pema khandu coming up as the new chief minister, for former education minister Tapang Taloh, the Dec 15, 2016 incident at Raj Bhawan here that made headlines is far from forgotten. He sees the recent SC judgment as the triumph of the democracy in the country.
"Earlier there were many interpretations but now it's clear for all to see. Everyone is witness to how Governor J P Rajkhowa had misused his constitutional power which has never happened in anywhere in the country," he said addressing press persons at Press Club here on Tuesday.
Referring to the episode as an unfortunate incident, he claimed that it was a preplanned move by the Centre to destabilize the Congress government in the state.
"It was preplanned and it was clear from his (Governor's) move that it was done to destabilize the Congress government in the state," he said.
Taloh suggested that the Governor should resign from his post on moral ground.
He said he did not expect any portfolio in the new government when asked by one of the journalists.
"I am a trusted shoulder of INC and will work for the larger interest of the party," he further added.

Slippery seasonal politics
[ Tongam Rina ]
Objectivity and honesty is not the hallmark of Arunachal politics. Who would know it better than former Chief Minister Kalikho Pul. Such was the deceit that he had no clue that the plot had changed in a span of seven hours road journey from Guwahati to Itanagar. Of the 30 odd MLAs that he paraded before the media in Guwahati after the Supreme Court verdict reinstating Nabam Tuki led Congress govt, only ten MLAs turned up at the hotel that his office had booked.
But they too vanished one after another, forcing Pul to check out from the hotel as well; the last one to leave in a private car.
Power is so alluring that MLAs did not even had the decency to tell Pul on his face that his tenure was over.
To his credit, Pul will be remembered for many reasons.
In recent years, people have not seen a politician who connects instantly with the common citizens. While critics termed it antics to garner publicity but he managed to touch the heart of thousands of ordinary citizens. The hugely popular but ill managed public darbars were testimonies of his popularity as well as a message to the current Chief Minister and those aspiring to be one that it matters to reach out to the people, to reassure that Chief Minister's office is within the reach of common people.
But it was a hard lesson for Pul that it's the MLAs that makes a Chief Minister, not the poor and the sick. Perhaps, it was his own weakness that he got carried away by his own popularity without taking the MLAs into his confidence. If at all he makes a comeback, which is not unlikely given the slippery political situation, perhaps he will be more careful.
While Pul has been given the time to introspect on what went wrong with his leadership, overnight change of loyalty is not new in the state. With exception of Late Dorjee Khandu, all the Chief Ministers have been at the receiving end of switch of loyalty overnight.
This time, it was more scandalous because Pul was chosen to lead the government by the same people who deserted him after more than a year of power struggle within the Congress, fuelled by clueless AICC.
Once the SC verdict came, AICC woke up and decided on Pema Khandu, a 37 year old political novice to replace Nabam Tuki as CM, keeping in tune with its policies of dynasty politics.
It remains to be seen how Pema navigates the complicated political scene in the state.  To start with, he has never faced the electorates directly as he has been elected unopposed twice in his five years of active political journey.
Already tattered by huge unemployment among the young people of the state, rain induced land slides, blockades and floods and deserted by politicians as they pursue their own selfish agenda, citizens are not hoping for any miracle from its pampered and ambitious politicians.  But little bit of stability would not hurt. For that to happen, the Congress high command needs to learn how to keep the slippery team together. The wounded BJP, even without the number, is unlikely to retire so soon from Arunachal.
As of now, we have to wait and watch how the state progresses under the leadership of the young Chief Minister. Perhaps, the first lesson for Pema Khandu came from his own colleague who asked for clarification after he said "hum log state ko bachane aya".

Shun back door entry

The Arunachal and Uttarakhand fiasco is starting to haunt BJP and central government. On Tuesday opposition parties in particularly Congress alleged that BJP led central government is making efforts to destabilize the non-BJP ruled States. Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge alleged that BJP wants to retain the power by hook or by crook. Home Minister Rajnath Singh dismissed allegation and claimed that political crisis erupted in Uttarakhand and Arunachal due to internal fight among Congress leaders. How much BJP may try to distance itself from Arunachal crisis but the fact remains that they played a key role in fomenting the political crisis.

Leader of opposition Tamiyo Taga during a two-day state BJP executive meeting  in April had claimed that BJP were instrumental in dethroning Nabam Tuki Congress government and that party is going to form government. BJP President Tapir Gao went to another level and issued deadline to previous Kalilkho Pul led PPA government to merge with BJP. After this entire hullabaloo BJP cannot wash their hands off. There is no doubt that BJP's political adventurism has failed miserably in Uttarakhand and Arunachal. It has badly hurt image of party and government.  They should end this mission of trying to topple elected government by using office of Governor and allurement. Especially in Arunachal people has got fed up of years of mis-governance by successive Congress governments. If BJP plays role of an active opposition party, they have every chance of coming to power in 2019. Party should try to win election in order to come to power. Back door method should be immediately shelved.

Never ending wait for RMSA teachers of Siang

Dear Editor,

Through the column of your esteemed daily I would like to bring into light the pathetic condition of teachers working under RMSA in Siang district who has not been paid salary for a long time.

RMSA teachers of KGBV, Boleng worked without salary in the previous session. The new academic session has already started but the same sad story keeps on moving as usual. All other districts of Arunachal Pradesh have distributed 8 months’ salary in the second week of April, 2016.

RMSA Siang officers follow tortoise as their role model in their work culture.  It takes them months to release the salary of their working teachers. Contacted many times but each time they ask us to wait for the next week and they have a different story to tell each time when we met them.

We want to ask good citizens of Arunachal Pradesh that, can a teacher work without salary for months. Is not pending or delay in releasing of salary for months a type of exploitation and lastly is there any justice for such exploited workers?? We beg the higher authority to take immediate action to find a solution of our problems.

Yours,

Frustrated RMSA teachers

of  K.G.B.V,  Boleng, Siang District

It was not at all a misunderstanding

Dear Editor,

This is in response to the article on the reader’s forum section of your esteemed daily titled “It was a misunderstanding” written by one Pranab Yangfo where the author has tried to paint a different picture deviating from the truth and conveniently termed the whole saga that transpired between us simply as an act of misunderstanding.

In this regard, I would like to express through your esteemed daily the mental trauma and agonies that I have gone through was solely caused by Pranab Yangfo. He was a complete stranger to me till the middle of May 2016 when he called on me at my divisional office chamber and introduced himself. He took my cell phone number and left the office and asked me to visit his house at Naharlagun. After some days he gave me a call which I could not pickup as I was in a meeting. He warned me through SMS saying that even the Chief Minister of the State also pickup his phone.

On the 25th of June 2016 I received a call from Pranab Yangfo who said that he was at my personal residence and asked me to come immediately. When I reached my residence I found Pranab Yangfo along with four unidentified young boys whom he introduced as surrendered militants who are now government volunteers waiting outside near the gate. We went together in the residence and he started demanding Rs. 50.00 Lakh saying that other officers are helping him to the tune of Rs. 70.00 – 80.00 Lakh. I straight away expressed my inability to arrange such a hefty amount upon which he reduced the demand to Rs. 25.00 Lakh which was again refused. He boasted that as he was a don and no one will complain if the fund allotted by the govt. for works are adjusted for his payoff. When I persistently refused to arrange the amount demanded he threatened that I must arrange Rs. 20.00 Lakh or face dire consequences and no more bargaining would be entertained. He asked me to arrange Rs. 2.00 Lakh for immediate expenses of his boys. I paid him Rs. 1.00 Lakh which he accepted and before leaving my premises he demanded that Rs. 20.00 Lakh be deposited in his bank account on Monday 27th of June 2016. In order to keep my family safe from all this and out of fear of dire consequences that he warned me about I ran from pillar to post and merely could managed Rs. 5.00 Lakh only. He gave his account number through SMS on 27th of June 2016 where my friend deposited the amount.  On that day I received many SMS from Pranab Yangfo enquiring whether money deposited or not. When I said that I have deposited Rs. 5.00 Lakh only he lost his temper and warned me to face the consequences. The amount I manage with so much of hardships was too little for him. On 29th and 30th June 2016 he visited my office and residence repeatedly during my absence. My family members informed me over phone that I should not come back as anything could happen.

Since the things were becoming unbearable and beyond tolerable limit, I lodged an FIR at Pasighat Police Station on 1st of July 2016 and the Police as well as the administration of the area took prompt action and immediate steps. In any of all these events where we met or had conversations telephonically, he never ever asked for work or work order. Neither had he asked for help nor any assistance. Those who seek help and assistance do not intimidate or threaten people of dire consequences. In my understanding, demanding hefty amount of money while intimidating and threatening one of dire consequences is clear extortion. All his tall claims that he is a sober businessman are false and mere misnomers. It was not at all a misunderstanding. All his threatening SMS are in my phone record and with Police.

Waiting for creation of Mon and Patkai autonomous council

Dear Editor,

We are so happy to see that a youthful person of our generation has become the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh. However we are so sad by his statement published in local dailies on 18th July wherein he stated that Mon and Patkai Autonomous Council will be decided by the home ministry. We didn’t expect such laid back attitude to such a burning and emotional issue being an inhabitant of the Mon Autonomous Council (Proposed) and also being the son of late CM Dorjee Khandu who was the founder of the Autonomous Council.

We hope and pray that new CM becomes pro-active so far as the creation of the two Autonomous Councils is concerned. We would be happy if time-frame is given for the creation of the autonomous council and we sincerely hope this will be fulfilled during his tenure.

Yours,

Somwang Lowang,

Pankai Wangsa
